5 Ways to Be a Better Bingo Player

Luck is a funny thing: you either have it, or you don’t. That’s what many people believe. Whether luck is something some are born with or not, you can still strategise, even with games of chance. Bingo is exciting and enjoyable, and with a few pointers, your luck can improve, too.

Any fan of the game knows how much fun it can be. It’s a social experience, so even when you lose, you still enjoy yourself. Winning more regularly, because of a well thought out strategy, adds to the exhilaration.

The Basics

Basic rule to play BingoThere are a few basic things to consider before you even start playing. Bingo is fast-paced, no matter what others may think. If you play while you’re tired, you’ll miss calls, and you’ll lose.

Another basic rule of thumb is to do your research before deciding where to play. This advice is relevant whether you’re playing at a brick-and-mortar establishment or online. Make sure you can trust the space and that it’ll give you the experience you want.

You should feel at home amongst like-minded people. There should be an active community that you can engage with and get advice from. And finally, it should be a place where financial transactions are secure, smooth, and quick.

Don’t feel like you can only play at one establishment. If you’re a regular player, you’ll probably already have your favourites. If you’re new to the game, knowing different venues means you have the flexibility to play where it makes the most sense.

Manage Your Bankroll

Even though bingo is one of the most affordable games available, put money aside specifically for playing. It’s crucial that you have a daily limit and that once you reach it, don’t chase losses.

This rule applies no matter the game. You can be playing poker, wagering on sports, or playing 30-ball bingo: if you let your emotions make your decisions, you’ll lose. This is a lesson many have learnt the hard way.

There are several ways to stretch what you have. Playing games with fewer players is one way. The prizes may not be as large, but you stand a better chance of winning. Another way is to look around for bonuses or promotional offers. Online bingo casinos will give you deposit bonuses and free cards.

Timing is Everything

Timing is EverythingThere are only so many hours in the day, and, likely, you can only play bingo some of that time. See if you can play at your preferred spot outside of peak times. Do what you can to avoid lunchtime, evenings, and weekends.

The fewer people there are when you’re playing, the better. It means there’ll be fewer people competing to call out ‘bingo’. The best times are generally early mornings, late afternoon, and night time. Once you’ve decided on your preferred bingo venues, you’ll be in a position to explore when the most rewarding times to play are.

Playing during quieter times doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to the community and miss out on those interactions. Most bingo spaces – online and real-world – have active communities that engage with each other. Make sure to join those spaces, as you stand to learn more tips from players.

How Many Cards?

The more cards you have, the better your chances of winning. It sounds easy. No matter what people think, bingo is an incredibly fast-paced game, with very little time between one call and the next. Practically, that means that unless you’re a seasoned player, you’re likely to miss numbers and get confused if you have more cards than you’re comfortable with.

This is where practice comes in. The more you play, the more cards you’ll be able to manage. Start with 2 to 4 cards, and build from there. Experienced players can handle far more.

On a related note, if you’re playing at a brick-and-mortar establishment, you’ll want to make sure you’re using a good dauber. It’s worth paying a little extra for something that works when you need it, especially if you’re playing with a large number of cards.

Once you’re confident enough to take on extra cards, check in with your bingo venue about any maximum card limit you need to be aware of.

Tippet & Granville

L.H.C Tippett and Joseph Granville both believed they had found a pattern to the random bingo balls thrown up. Their theories are outlined below but bear in mind that currently, there’s no statistical evidence to back up their claims.

Tippet

Leonard Tippett was a statistician from London. His theory revolved around the median number of any bingo game. He speculated that the more numbers were called, the more likely they would be close to the median number.

In a game of 90-ball bingo, for example, Tippett suggested that the more balls called, the more likely they would gather around the median number, which in this case is 45. According to him, the shorter the game, the more likely cards with numbers closer to 1 or 90 will win. Inversely, if the game is long, get cards that have numbers close to 45.

Granville

Joseph Granville was hailed from America; he was a stockbroker and finance writer. He theorised that it was possible to find a pattern in the randomly called bingo numbers.

He suggested that an ideal card exists and that it contains roughly the same number of odd and even numbers, plus high and low numbers. He also believed that it should include as many numbers as possible with different last digits.

There’s no scientific evidence to back this up, but maybe it’s worth looking for the perfect card next time you play.
